THE Federal Government of Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu says his administration will enforce quality standards, transparency and value for money in all ongoing road projects across the country.

Tinubu made the pledge during the flag-off of the Osogbo–Iwo–Ibadan and Gbongan–Osogbo road projects on Thursday in Osogbo.

The President was represented by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola.

The President said the projects underscored his administration’s commitment to improving connectivity, unlocking economic opportunities and restoring confidence in public infrastructure.

“Let me assure you, this administration will enforce quality standards, transparency and value for money.

“Every naira must count. Every milestone must be met, and every community must feel the benefit.

“To our contractors and engineers, deliver with excellence and speed. To our state and local partners, let us work as one team,” he said.

He urged citizens to remain patient and supportive, noting that the projects would strengthen trust and drive national development.

“Together, we will build not just roads, but trust; not just routes, but a future.

“May these projects stand as a testament to what we can achieve when purpose meets action,” he added.

The President explained that the 44-kilometre Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan Road, which begins at Dele Yes Sir Roundabout in Osogbo and passes through Ara, Awo, Ede, Telemu, Iwo, Laagun before terminating in Ibadan, has deteriorated over the years despite being the shortest route linking Osogbo and Ibadan.

He disclosed that the Federal Executive Council approved the award of the project at a cost of N114,854,477,607.93 to Peculiar Concerns Limited with a completion period of 24 months.

Tinubu assured residents that the road would be constructed using Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP) technology to guarantee durability and long-term service.

The President also announced the reconstruction of the Gbongan-Osogbo Road, a project covering approximately 44 kilometres of dual carriageway.

He said the road originates from Old Garage Roundabout in Osogbo and passes through Owode-Ede, Akoda-Ede, Sekona, Oogi and Ode-Omu before terminating at Gbongan on the Ife-Ibadan Expressway.

“Today, we are not just turning soil; we are turning a new page.

“These roads are lifelines and critical components of the Federal Government’s road infrastructure development programme.

“They will enhance connectivity, improve road safety and stimulate socio-economic activities, enabling farmers to move goods faster and children to get to school more safely,” he said.

The President added that the projects, approved by the Federal Executive Council, were designed to ease transportation challenges and boost the economic fortunes of host communities.

“With God on our side, we shall complete these projects for the benefit and economic transformation of our nation.

“These roads will be delivered successfully,” he said.

Earlier, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, commended President Tinubu for what he described as unprecedented infrastructure development across the country, saying the President had demonstrated a strong commitment to national development.

The monarch said Tinubu deserved another term in office based on his performance, particularly in the area of infrastructure.

Oba Akanbi also declared that Tinubu remained the only presidential candidate he would welcome to campaign in Iwoland and Osun State ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

“There is no other presidential candidate that will come to Iwo or Osun to campaign apart from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He has performed well and deserves another term in office,” the monarch declared.

In his remarks during the flag off, the Minister of Works, David Umahi, Edo State governor, Monday Okpebholo and the lawmaker, representing Osun East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi urged the people to vote massively the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the August 15 gubernatorial poll, Bola Oyebamiji.

Umahi urged critics to visit ongoing federal road projects nationwide to assess progress.

“Those questioning our borrowing should travel across the country and see what the Federal Government is doing.

“We are building roads that can last up to 100 years with minimal maintenance,” he said.
