THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the commencement of its 2026 recruitment exercise, inviting suitably qualified Nigerians to apply for various entry-level positions across the Commission.
According to the recruitment notice, the exercise is aimed at strengthening INEC’s institutional capacity in electoral administration, voter registration, data management, election logistics and other critical electoral operations in furtherance of its constitutional mandate.
Vacant Positions:
INEC said applications are open for the following categories:
• Professional Cadre (Lawyers, Clinical Officers, IT Officers, Engineers, Accountants and other professionals) – Grade Levels 09, 10 and 12.
• Administrative Officer II (Registration Area Officer) – Grade Level 08.
• Executive Officer (Assistant Registration Area Officer) – Grade Level 07.
Qualifications
Professional Cadre (Grade Levels 09, 10 and 12)
Applicants must possess:
• A Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent and a Master’s degree in the relevant field of specialisation from a government-recognised institution.
• Relevant professional certification where applicable, including COREN, NSE, ICAN, ANAN, MDCN, NBA, CPN and others.

• NYSC Discharge Certificate, Certificate of Exemption or Letter of Exclusion.
• Demonstrable practical knowledge and competence in the relevant field.
• Analytical, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in the use of computer applications and digital tools.
Administrative Officer II (Registration Area Officer) – Grade Level 08
Applicants must possess:
• A Bachelor’s Degree, Higher National Diploma (HND) or equivalent qualification in Social Sciences, Humanities or Sciences from a recognised institution.
• NYSC Discharge Certificate, Certificate of Exemption or Letter of Exclusion.
• Good knowledge of data management and record keeping.
• Good communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and other relevant ICT tools.
Executive Officer (Assistant Registration Area Officer) – Grade Level 07
Applicants must possess:
• A National Certificate in Education (NCE) or equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.
• Basic knowledge of computer operations and data handling.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to work effectively under supervision within assigned Registration Areas.
General Requirements
In addition to the qualifications above, applicants must:
• Be Nigerian citizens by birth or descent.
• Present a valid Certificate of State of Origin duly signed by the Chairman or Secretary of their Local Government. Certificates endorsed by Liaison Officers will not be accepted.
• Be computer literate.
• Be certified by a Government Medical Officer as physically and mentally fit for appointment into the Commission.
• Not be above 35 years of age at the point of application.
• Possess good character and must not have been convicted of any criminal offence.
• Be willing to serve in any part of the Federation where assigned.
• Possess integrity, discipline and commitment to public service.

INEC stated that the recruitment exercise is free of charge and that only shortlisted candidates will be invited for the next stage.
Important Notice
The Commission advised applicants that:
Candidates will be assessed strictly based on the credentials submitted during the recruitment process.
Upgrading of qualifications or credentials after the recruitment exercise will not be entertained.
Multiple applications by a candidate will lead to automatic disqualification.
Submission of false information or forged documents will attract disqualification and possible prosecution.
