News Update

As part of effort to fulfilling their promises, the Osun State council executives under the umbrella of Osun State Chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON have distributed and handed over the remaining 60 units of security patrol vehicles to the security agencies in the state.

The benefiting security agencies are: Nigerian Army, Nigeria Air Force, Nigeria Police Force, State Service Services, Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps among others.

The vehicles were procured by the leaderships of the 30 Local Government Areas including Ife-East Area Office to scale up the security formations in order to strengthen the security, maintenance of law and order, protection of lives and property of the citizens in the state.

This is just as the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Southwest), DIG Fayoade Mustapha extolled Osun Council Executives for being compassionate about the welfare and general well-being of the citizens through frequent support for security operatives.

Addressing the people at the official distribution ceremony, held at the police state command, Osogbo, the Osun ALGON Chairman, Hon. Samuel Idowu Abiodun said the gesture was a clear demonstration of commitment to the safety, security, and well-being of our people.

He said: “Just few weeks ago, we were here to unveil the distribution of the patrol vehicles and I am glad to inform this gathering that the remaining of the vehicles are here for distribution aimed at strengthening the security, maintenance of law and order in the state. This is indeed, “a promise made, a promise kept.”

“Security remains the bedrock of any meaningful development anywhere in the world. Without peace and stability, no society can thrive, and no government can achieve its developmental goals hence the hold steps taken by the leadership of our councils to support the security formations in the state.

“As the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State Chapter, I am proud to affirm that local governments remain the closest tier of government to the people. We understand the peculiar security challenges within our communities, and we are determined to support all necessary efforts to address them effectively.

“It is important to stress that the success of this initiative is a direct product of the growing autonomy of local governments. When local governments are empowered to manage their resources, set their priorities, and respond quickly to the needs of their people, the impact is immediate and far-reaching.

“Autonomy enables us to act without undue delays, to design solutions that are tailored to our local realities, and to take responsibility for the security and welfare of our communities. As council executives, we are now better positioned to initiate and execute people-oriented programmes such as this distribution of security patrol vehicles. This is a clear testament to what can be achieved when governance is brought closer to the grassroots and when local authorities are trusted with the resources and responsibility to act.

“The provision of these patrol vehicles is therefore not only a security intervention but also a practical demonstration of the effectiveness of local government autonomy in Nigeria particularly in Osun State”, Abiodun added.

The Osun ALGON lauded the police and other security agencies in the state for providing adequate security across the nooks and crannies of Osun.

He said: “I wish to commend the dedication and sacrifices of our security personnel. Your courage, resilience, and commitment to duty continue to inspire confidence among our citizens. We recognize the risks you take daily, and today’s gesture is an encouragement, appreciation and support for your invaluable service.

“However, let me emphasize that security is a collective responsibility. We must all join hands to secure our environment. While government and security agencies play leading roles, the cooperation of the public is essential. I urge all residents of Osun State to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and supportive of our security agencies by providing timely and useful information.

“To the beneficiaries of these vehicles, I charge you to deploy them judiciously and maintain them properly. Let them serve the purpose for which they are provided by protecting lives and property, and promoting peace across our communities.”
