Popular Actor Kola Oyewo dies

Veteran Nollywood Kola Oyewo has died.

He was aged 80.

The disclosure was made in an Instagram post by Kunle Afodunrin popularly called Kunle Afod.

The actor recently paid the deceased actor a visit in Ile-Ife, Osun State, as part of his interventions to honour old actors in the Yoruba movie genre.

He wrote, “Tonight, we lost a true legend. Kola Oyewo has taken his final bow. His remarkable talent, timeless performances and immense contributions to the Nigerian theatre and film industry will never be forgotten. His legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. Rest well sir. Your works live.”

The late Oyewo, who started his career with the Oyin Adejobi Theatre Group, was a lecturer of Theatre Arts at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.

He starred in several films which included “Orogun Adedigba,” “The God’s Are Not to Blame, “Sango,” among many others.

He onced revealed during an interview that a battle with prostrate problems slowed his career.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu congratulated the deceased actor when he joined the octogenarian club on March 27, 2026.

Mr Tinubu described him as a national treasure and a worthy ambassador of Yoruba theatre and Nigerian storytelling.

The late Oyewo had five boys; earned a bachelor’s degree at OAU and completed a master’s degree and PhD at the University of Ibadan (UI), Oyo State.

He was the Balogun of Oba-Ile in the Olorunda Local Government Area of Osun State. He also taught at the Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State and Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State.
