PRESS STATEMENT

OsunOpenLG at Two: Celebrating Milestones in Local Governance Transparency and Charting the Future

As we celebrate the second anniversary of our flagship project, the Osun Open Local Government Project (OsunOpenLG), we reflect with pride on a journey that has continued to redefine conversations around transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in local governance.

Officially launched on May 24, 2024, with the support of the Nigeria Youth Futures Fund, OsunOpenLG was conceived with a clear vision of strengthening openness and improving governance systems at the grassroots level. Two years later, the project has not only sustained that vision but has expanded the frontiers of innovation and civic engagement in local government administration.

Since its inception, OsunOpenLG has reshaped the discourse around transparency and accountability within the local government system by promoting access to information, encouraging citizen participation, and advancing conversations on good governance practices at the grassroots.

One of the most remarkable achievements recorded through the project is the creation of a pioneering Artificial Intelligence ChatBot dedicated to open governance issues at the local government level in Nigeria. This groundbreaking innovation represents a significant milestone in leveraging technology to improve citizens’ access to governance information, strengthen public engagement, and simplify interactions around local government accountability mechanisms. By introducing this initiative, OsunOpenLG has continued to demonstrate the possibilities that exist at the intersection of technology, civic participation, and governance reform.

As we mark this important milestone, this anniversary edition serves not only as an opportunity to celebrate our accomplishments so far, but also to reflect on the journey ahead. We are using this edition to highlight the successes recorded over the years and present our plans for the future as we continue to deepen impact and widen the scope of our interventions.

The successes of the past two years reaffirm our belief that sustainable development at the grassroots level can only thrive where governance is transparent, inclusive, participatory, and accountable.

As we look ahead, OsunOpenLG remains committed to advancing innovative solutions, strengthening partnerships, and driving initiatives that empower citizens and improve local governance systems.

Signed:
Jare Tiamiyu
