FG: How We disbursed N9.9bn billion to vulnerable Nigerian families

THE Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bernard Doro, says Ondo State has received about ₦9.9 billion under the Federal Government’s Household Prosperity and Empowerment Cash Transfer Programme.

Doro disclosed this on Monday during a stakeholders’ engagement with beneficiaries held at St David’s Primary School, Ibule, Ifedore LGA, Ondo State.

He said the intervention, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, targets poor and vulnerable households nationwide. According to him, over nine million households have benefited across the 36 states and the FCT.

The minister explained that the programme pays ₦75,000 to each beneficiary household in three tranches, adding that Ondo alone has recorded about ₦9.9 billion across the first, second and ongoing cycles, covering 396,671 households.

He said the visit was part of a nationwide validation exercise to confirm that funds are reaching intended beneficiaries and to assess impact on citizens’ welfare.

Doro expressed concern over low awareness of the programme, noting that many eligible Nigerians still do not fully understand or access the scheme. He called for improved communication and transparency to strengthen social protection delivery.

He added that randomly selected beneficiaries were engaged directly to confirm receipt of payments and provide feedback that would guide future policy adjustments and programme efficiency.

Earlier, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa commended the Federal Government for the initiative, describing it as a lifeline for vulnerable families in the state.

He said effective implementation requires stronger synergy between federal and state governments, and noted that the South-West region has received about ₦62 billion under the programme.

The governor also highlighted challenges with National Identification Number registration, urging relevant agencies to ensure proper capture of residents on the social register to avoid payment delays.
