APC issues deadline for 2027 election nominations

The All Progressives Congress has fixed May 16 and May 23, 2026, for its presidential and governorship primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, disclosed this on Monday, noting that presidential aspirants will pay N100m for expression of interest and nomination forms, while governorship aspirants will pay N50m.

Senate and House of Representatives forms are pegged at N20m and N10m respectively, with State Assembly aspirants to pay N6m.

According to the timetable, sale of forms will run from April 25 to May 2, with submission closing on May 4. Screening of aspirants is scheduled between May 6 and May 13.

Primary elections for legislative seats will hold between May 18 and May 21.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed January 16, 2027, for the Presidential and National Assembly elections, and February 6, 2027, for governorship and State Assembly polls. Party primaries are to be conducted between April 23 and May 30, 2026.

INEC added that campaigns for national elections will begin on August 19, 2026, while governorship campaigns will commence on September 9.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party has also adopted a timetable for its 2027 activities following its National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja, declaring an end to its internal crisis.

The party said it is now united and focused on preparations for the elections, urging members to embrace reconciliation and adhere strictly to its schedule and INEC guidelines.

However, divisions persist within the party, with a faction dismissing the meeting as illegitimate.

Also, the African Democratic Congress said it is working towards adopting a consensus option in selecting its presidential candidate, describing it as a cost-effective approach ahead of the 2027 polls.
