Tinubu okays N15bn take-off grant for new Police College campus

President Bola Tinubu on Monday approved the sum of N15 billion for the take-off of the new campus for the Police College in Ogun State, appointing Ibrahim Gaidam, minister of Police Affairs, as chairman of the 16-member Governing Council of the Police College, Wudil, Kano State.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, in a statement, said the President also appointed the Inspector General of Police and Chairman of the Police Service Commission, as member of the Council

Others include one representative each from the Federal Ministry of Education, the Federal Ministry of Finance, and the Federal Ministry of Justice.

The President also appointed six persons to represent the six geopolitical zones.

The six representatives include Babagana Zannah Adam, a retired Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP Rtd.), to represent the North East

Emmanuel Manger will represent the North Central, Maigari Dikko, a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG Rtd.), will represent North West, Dubem Obaze, South East, Ajibogere Toyin, South West and Udom Ekpoudom, also a deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG Rtd, South South

The statement said the Commandant of the Academy, the Provost, and the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of training will serve as ex officio members.

The registrar of the Academy will also serve as the council’s secretary.

According to Onanuga, the president also approved the establishment of a new campus of the Police Academy in Erinja, Yewa South Local Government Area, in Ogun State.

The President also approved a special take-off grant of N15 billion for the college.

The statement said the President’s approval is in fulfilment of the provisions of the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment) Act, 2021, particularly with respect to the expansion of the Police Academy based in Wudil, Kano state, into multiple campuses across the country.

The statement revealed that the intervention fund will be sourced from the TetFund 2026 allocation to finance priority infrastructure, academic facilities, student accommodation, and core training assets.

“A high-level consultative meeting involving the Minister of Police Affairs, the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, officials of the Federal Ministry of Education, the Inspector-General of Police and the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC) recommended the siting of the new campus in Erinja.
