Osun LG Chairmen Donate 300 Motorcycles to Police, DSS, Others to Boost Grassroots Security

…Police Commissioner Hails President Tinubu on LG Autonomy

THE Local Government Chairmen under the aegis of Association of All Local Governments Association of Nigeria, ALGON, Osun State Chapter on Tuesday donated and handed over 300 security motorcycles to security agencies in the state.

The Council Chairmen reaffirmed commitment to grassroots astronomical progresses and development across the nooks and crannies of the state.

This is even as Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over Local Government Autonomy in the country.

The benefitting security formations are: Nigeria Police Force, NPF, Department of State Services, DSS, , Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Vigilante Group of Nigeria, VGN, Hunters, Local/Community Security Agencies among others.

Speaking on behalf of the Council Chairmen, Osun ALGON Chairman, Hon. Samuel Idowu Abiodun, said the provision of the motorcycles was not only a security intervention but also a practical demonstration of the effectiveness of local government autonomy in Nigeria.

According to him, the distribution of 300 security motorcycles was an indication that local governments can become strong pillars in the architecture of national security and development when empowered.

“The motorcycles we are distributing today will enhance mobility, improve response time, and enable our security agencies to access difficult terrains, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach areas. This initiative is aimed at strengthening community policing and ensuring that no part of our state is left vulnerable”, Abiodun added.

The ALGON Chairman maintained that Autonomy has enabled local government officers to act without undue delays, to design solutions that are tailored to their local realities, and to take responsibility for the security and welfare of their communities.

He said: “In the past, limitations in financial and administrative independence often constrained the ability of local governments to respond proactively to pressing challenges such as insecurity.

“However, with increased autonomy, we are now better positioned to initiate and execute people-oriented programmes such as this distribution of motorcycles.

“This is a clear testament to what can be achieved when governance is brought closer to the grassroots and when local authorities are trusted with the resources and responsibility to act”

Abiodun commended the security operatives in the state for their high sense of professionalism, diligence and patriotism saying “i must commend the dedication and sacrifices of our security personnel, your courage, resilience, and commitment to duty continue to inspire confidence among our citizens and recognize the risks you take daily, and today’s gesture is a token of our appreciation and support for your invaluable service.”

He charged the beneficiaries to deploy the motorcycles judiciously and maintain them properly so as to serve the purpose for which they are provided.

In his remarks, CP Ibrahim Gotan commended Osun council Chairmen for bringing the dividends of democracy to the doorsteps of the citizens through the empowerment and enhancement of security apparatuses in their various domains.

He extolled ALGON Chairman, Hon. Abiodun Idowu for his visionary leadership and commitment to grassroots development saying “your rededication in strengthen grassroots security and your unwavering support for law enforcement agencies are truly commended”

” This gesture is not only timely but also a clear demonstration of your resolve to safety and well-being of the community. Security as we know it is a collective responsibility hence the need for collaboration, partnership and extreme support from all stakeholders. The donation of these motorcycles will definitely enhance the security capacity particularly in our efforts to reach rural areas and help faster response and improve patrol system.

“I sincerely thank you for this thoughtful and impactful intervention. Be assured that these motorcycles will be judiciously deployed to strengthen our fight against crimes and ensure our community remain safe and secure. I want to thank our President, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu for making this laudable gesture a reality by giving autonomy to all the local governments in Nigeria”, CP stated.

The Chairman, flagoff committee, Hon. Lanre Balogun extolled the cooperation of the local government officers that led to the successful implementation of the project.

In their separate remarks, some of the beneficiaries hailed the initiative described it as timely and thoughtful.

The event was graced by all the local government chairmen, councillors and other council officers across the 30 Local Government Areas in the state as well as the heads of the security agencies in the state.
