Pupils and students in public primary and secondary schools across Irewolede Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Ekiti State, have received thousands of exercise books and school bags under the council’s annual Back-to-School Initiative.
The programme, championed by the Chairperson of Irewolede LCDA, Hon. Mrs. Dupe Bakare, was held at the council secretariat and attended by pupils, students, teachers and education stakeholders.
Bakare said the initiative was aimed at reducing the financial burden on parents, encouraging school attendance and supporting academic excellence among children in the council area.
She described the programme as an investment in the future of the children and said it aligns with the Human Capital Development pillar of the six-point agenda of Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, particularly the provision of free and qualitative education.
The council chairperson urged parents to support their children’s education and encouraged the beneficiaries to remain disciplined, dedicated and committed to their studies.
Education stakeholders commended Bakare for the initiative, describing the intervention as timely and impactful. Teachers and beneficiaries also expressed appreciation for the support.
Bakare Supports Nigerian Legion
In a separate gesture, Bakare donated new uniforms to members of the Nigerian Legion, Irewolede LCDA Chapter.
She explained that the donation was inspired by her observation during the last Armed Forces Remembrance Day that some Legion members were wearing old and worn-out uniforms.
Bakare commended the Legion for its sacrifices and contributions to the nation, describing the gesture as a token of appreciation for their service.
The Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Irewolede LCDA Chapter, Mr. Michael Adeyiola, thanked the council chairperson for the donation and prayed for her continued success.
