176 Kwara kidnap victims regain freedom

The 176 kidnap victims of Woro in Kaiama Local Government, Kwara State, have regained freedom.

The victims, mainly women and children, who were abducted during the February 3 terrorist invasion of the Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, were released on Wednesday after six months in captivity.

Confirming the development, the Senior Special Assistant to the Kwara State Governor on Communications, Ibraheem Abdullateef, announced in a statement that the victims had been rescued by security forces.

According to him, the Kwara State Government expressed gratitude to the security agencies and commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the successful operation.

The statement read: “Kwara State Government is happy to share that the security forces have rescued the people who were kidnapped at Woro community in Kwara North.

“Kudos to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, security forces, and everyone who played a role in this huge feat. We are grateful!”

Although the state government did not immediately disclose details of how the operation was carried out or whether any suspects were arrested during the mission.

The abduction drew nationwide attention in February after a video emerged showing dozens of women and children being held captive by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.

In the video, the captives, including women carrying infants, said they were abducted from Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area.

The footage showed dozens of women and children dressed in worn clothing, with several of the children appearing visibly malnourished.
