Osun LG: Insight Initiative Tasks House Of Assembly On State Electoral Law Reform

THE Insight Initiative for Community and Social Development, IICSD, has called on the Osun State House of Assembly to review the state’s electoral laws to reflect current legal realities and prevent future disputes over local government leadership.

The organisation made the call during an interactive session titled “Reporting for Grassroots Accountability: Strengthening Osun Local Government Through Public Interest Journalism” held in Osogbo in July 2026. The programme was held with support from the Nigeria Youth Futures Fund, NYFF, and implemented by LEAP Africa.

It also urged political stakeholders to work towards a lasting resolution of the prolonged council crisis, including considering the possibility of conducting fresh elections where necessary to restore democratic governance and public confidence.

Speaking on the philosophy behind the initiative, the report stated: “Access to public information should not depend on legal expertise or technical knowledge. Every citizen deserves to understand how government works.”

The organisation concluded that technology-driven initiatives such as Amoye, supported by public interest journalism, civic engagement, and institutional transparency, could help strengthen accountability in Osun’s local governments by exposing governance gaps, improving access to verified information, and encouraging greater public scrutiny of council finances and service delivery.
