Abducted man killed during escape attempt

A staff of the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mr. Orseer Nyagu, has been killed after being abducted along the Agagbe-Naka road in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.

According to accounts from family members and colleagues, Nyagu was abducted alongside two other persons while travelling from Agagbe to Naka along the Agagbe-Naka road.
Sources said he allegedly lost his life while attempting to escape from captivity.

Sources close to the family disclosed that the kidnappers contacted his relatives after about two days in captivity and allegedly demanded a ransom of N15M for the victims’ release.
The amount was reportedly negotiated down to N500,000.

However, before the ransom payment could be completed, Nyagu allegedly attempted to escape from the kidnappers’ custody.

He was reportedly killed during the process.
The two other victims who remained with the abductors were later released and safely reunited with their families, according to community sources.

Residents, friends, and colleagues of the deceased have described him as a promising young worker whorecently secured employment with SUBEB.

In a tribute shared online, Ukan Kurugh, lamented the worsening insecurity affecting several communities in Benue State.

He described the late Nyagu as the son of his former primary school teacher and called for urgent action to address rising cases of kidnapping and violence along rural roads.

The killing has once again drawn attention to persistent insecurity in parts of Benue State, particularly in rural communities where residents and commuters reportedly remain vulnerable to attacks and abductions.

As of the time of filing this report, efforts to get a response from the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command,DSP, Udeme Edet was not successful.
