FCC Commissioner Eluyemi Pledges Transparency, Merit-Based Operations in Osun

THE Federal Commissioner representing Osun State at the Federal Character Commission, Hon. Eludayo Eluyemi, has reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, fairness, and equal opportunities, declaring that accountability and merit will define the operations of the Commission in Osun State.

Speaking during a press conference on Thursday, Eluyemi described the Federal Character Commission as “the conscience of Nigeria,” stressing that the institution remains critical to national unity, fairness, and balanced representation across the federation.

The FCC Commissioner, while appreciating Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his appointment under the Renewed Hope Agenda, said the responsibility before him goes beyond politics and appointments.

“Federal Character in Osun State must not only be applied, it must be seen to be working,” he declared.

According to him, the Commission has made significant progress through digital reforms that now allow Nigerians to access services and apply for waivers online without necessarily travelling to Abuja.

“The digital transformation of the FCC is making access easier and more efficient for Nigerians everywhere,” he stated.

Hon. Eluyemi, however, acknowledged that challenges still exist in the implementation of federal character principles, particularly the reluctance of some Nigerians to work outside their states of origin, as well as lingering distrust arising from past experiences.

To address these concerns, he unveiled plans to strengthen the institution through staff welfare, capacity building, digital transformation, and the establishment of a centralized merit-based database that will connect qualified citizens with available opportunities.

He also disclosed plans to deploy monitoring officers across local governments in Osun State to ensure compliance and improve accountability through effective whistleblowing mechanisms.

“Transparency is no longer optional; it is the foundation of public trust,” the Commissioner said.

Eluyemi further emphasized that his administration would focus on sustainable empowerment rather than temporary assistance.

“My focus is sustainable empowerment through opportunities, not handouts,” he noted while encouraging youths in Osun State to equip themselves with relevant skills, education, and entrepreneurial capacity.

The FCC Commissioner also warned residents against fake job agents and fraudulent recruitment schemes, urging Nigerians to rely only on official government procedures and approved communication channels.

Speaking on national development, Eluyemi maintained that equity and fairness remain central to building a stronger country.

“Nigeria can only achieve fairness when Federal Character principles guide the allocation of opportunities and resources,” he said.

He assured the people of Osun State that his tenure would be remembered for measurable impact, transparency, and improved public confidence in the Commission.

“Accountability, fairness, and transparency will define our operations in Osun State,” he concluded.
