INEC resumes nationwide voter registration

News Update

THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says the third and final phase of nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) begins on Monday, May 11.

Mohammed Haruna, chairman of the information and voter education committee, said in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday that the exercise would end on Friday, July 10.

Mr Haruna advised eligible citizens who have attained the age of 18, as well as those who were unable to register in earlier phases, to seize the opportunity to register.

He also advised registered voters who wish to transfer their registration, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or correct their biodata to access the commission’s dedicated online portal at https://cvr.inecnigeria.org.

Mr Haruna said that registered voters could also visit INEC state and local government area offices nationwide to collect PVCs.

“In continuation of the process, the commission will display the register of voters for claims and objections from Thursday, July 23, to Wednesday, July 29.

“This statutory exercise provides an important opportunity for citizens to scrutinise the register and assist the commission in ensuring its accuracy, completeness and credibility,” he said.

Mr Haruna reassured Nigerians that all necessary arrangements had been concluded for the smooth conduct of the exercise.

“We once again appeal to all eligible citizens to present themselves for registration and to play their part in strengthening the foundation of our electoral process,” he said.

The second phase of the exercise was suspended on April 17 to allow the commission to clean up the register following its publication for registrants’ claims and objections.
