The Nigerian government has announced an emergency stakeholders meeting on 22nd April 2026, to halt the planned airfare hike and airline shutdown in Nigeria over a 300 percent increase in aviation fuel known as JetA1.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, made this known in a letter to airline operators dated April 16, 2026.

Recall that airline operators had threatened to shut down services or significantly hike airfares as JetA1 rose to above N3000 per liter from N900.
In response to airline operators, Keyamo assured that the Nigerian government would intervene to avoid collapse of the sector.
