The Osun Online Publishers Association (OOPA) on Tuesday paid a courtesy visit to the Osun State Police Command, marking the beginning of a new leadership phase following its recent transition.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, commended the cordial relationship that has existed between the Command and the Association, particularly under the leadership of the immediate past Chairman, Mukthar Ajelogbon.
He expressed concern over the growing spread of misinformation by unprofessional actors, especially as the Osun election approaches, stressing that curbing fake news is critical to maintaining peace and public safety.
Ajelogbon, during the meeting, assured the Police Command of continued cooperation, noting that the Association remains committed to strengthening its partnership with security agencies.
Speaking on behalf of the association, the Chairman, Comrade Abioye Tosin Lawrence, appreciated the efforts of the Nigeria Police in safeguarding lives and property across the state.
He described members of OOPA as experienced professionals committed to truth, accuracy, and responsible journalism.
“In today’s fast-paced digital ecosystem, collaboration between the media and security agencies has become more important than ever. We will continue to build on the mutual relationship already established,” he said.
The visit also featured the introduction of the new Secretary, Adekale Babatunde, alongside the immediate past Secretary, Pa Akintunde Idowu, who both exchanged pleasantries with the PPRO.
The Association reaffirmed its resolve to monitor and discourage the activities of fake news purveyors, while promoting ethical standards and responsible digital publishing.
