News Update
An official of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Ogun State, Abass Olalekan, has been detained by police following the d+ath of a female corps member, Victoria Ariyo, in Abeokuta.
Ariyo, who was serving in Abeokuta South Local Government Area, reportedly d+ed on Tuesday after complications linked to a terminated pregnancy. Her remains have since been buried at Kobape Cemetery along the Kobape-Sagamu Road.
Her d+ath comes barely a month after another corps member, Adeleye Mary, who served in the same LGA, d+ed under mysterious circumstances.
According to reports, Ariyo’s d+ath has sparked serious allegations against Olalekan, the Local Government Inspector (LGI) for Abeokuta South. He is accused of being romantically involved with the deceased, with claims that the relationship led to the pregnancy and its eventual termination.
A police source confirmed his arrest, stating that Olalekan is currently in custody at the state command headquarters in Eleweran. The source also questioned the propriety of a relationship between an official and a corps member under his supervision.
Ogun State Police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed that Ariyo’s d+ath is under investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department but did not comment on the arrest or allegations.
Meanwhile, the NYSC in Ogun State has yet to issue an official response.
