Open Letter To Bishop Kukah, Roman Catholic Diocese Of Sokoto On Osun LG Withheld Funds: Matters Arising, By Osun APP

AN OPEN LETTER TO BISHOP MATTHEW HASSAN KUKAH, ROMAN CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF SOKOTO ON OSUN LG WITHHELD FUNDS: MATTERS ARISING

With reference to the above subject – matter, the Osun State Action People’s Party (APP) hereby formally writes your Eminence and our most revered spiritual father, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah on the impasse currently going on in our dear State, Osun.

It would be recalled that from the time immemorial, God has given men of God enormous responsibility to install kings, reproof and correct as well as counsel on every subject.

The Osun APP has watched, since March 2025, the drama and politics of bitterness between the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the statutory allocation to all the local governments in Osun State.

Acursory look and keen observer of the unending feud between PDP and APC reveals that despite several court judgements such as the Federal High Court Osogbo on 30/ 11/ 2022 and the Appeal Court on 13/07/2025 affirming that Osun State LG funds belong to the ruling PDP, the APC chairmen in Osun State have been laying claim as the authentic legal occupants of the LG in Osun State till now, whereas the APC chairmen and councillors tenure has expired since October 2025.

Thus, the implication now is that the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) who also doubles as the Minister of Justice , Lateef Fagbemi has directed the United Bank for Africa (UBA) to keep holding the Osun State LG funds even after almost a year thereby bringing untold hardship to the innocent Osun State masses who are supposed to be the direct beneficiaries of the disputed funds.

Your Eminence, the Osun State APP leadership is hereby appealing and calling on you to please, call on and discuss with President Bola Hammed Tinubu to direct the Minister of Justice to release all Osun State LG funds currently being held in the UBA with a view to spreading more developments at the grassroots in Osun State.

Sir, according to Alexander Pope, “all it takes evil to succeed is for the good people to keep silent”.

Similarly, an age long Yoruba axiom says that, “as long as an elder is in a market, a child’s neck cannot bend”. Osun State APP leadership is hereby calling on you Sir, our most revered father, to please intervene as soon as possible in this unending drama in our dear State – Osun with a view to restoring normalcy and development to our dear State – Osun.
