2027 Elections: Sheikh Gumi’s Son Declares Ambition

News Update

Mubarak Ahmad-Gumi, son of prominent Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has declared his intention to contest for a seat in the Kaduna State House of Assembly in 2027.

‎He announced that he will seek election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to represent the Doka/Gabasawa constituency.

‎Ahmad-Gumi said his decision followed persistent calls from residents of the area who asked him to step forward and offer himself for public service.

‎He is currently serving as a legislative aide to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas

‎According to him, the role has given him direct exposure to legislative duties and public policy processes.

‎“My legislative experience has given me firsthand insight into how laws are shaped, how policies impact citizens, and how vital effective representation is,” he stated.

‎He explained that his move from social media advocacy into partisan politics is driven by the need for young Nigerians to participate actively in governance rather than remain only online commentators.

‎“Young Nigerians today are technologically skilled, innovative, and globally connected. We understand entrepreneurship and modern problem-solving. If we truly want change, we must move beyond online discussions to active political participation,” he said.

‎Ahmad-Gumi noted that accountability and open access to leadership would define his style of representation if elected.

‎He said his political ambition is anchored on service, constant engagement with constituents, and translating their concerns into practical legislative action.

‎Describing Nigeria’s current political climate as a “generational crossroads,” he called for leadership that combines experience with youthful energy.

‎He added that youth involvement in politics should be seen as a process of renewal rather than confrontation, stressing that steady participation would eventually lead to balanced and inclusive governance.

‎He also urged Nigerians to look beyond ethnic and religious differences, saying national development requires shared responsibility.

‎According to him, politics should not be left to a few individuals but embraced as a civic duty by all citizens.

‎Ahmad-Gumi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems with a minor in Public Administration from the University of Sharjah.
