Ekiti approves vehicle, housing loans for school teachers

THE Ekiti State Government has approved N76.6m as vehicle and housing loans for primary school teachers in the state.

The approval comprises vehicle loans for 49 teachers and housing loans for 72 beneficiaries.

The Chairman of the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board, Prof. Femi Akinwumi, said the gesture was part of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration’s commitment to improving teachers’ welfare and boosting their morale.

Akinwumi, in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, said incentives for educators were critical to the delivery of free and quality basic education.

He said, “Governor Biodun Oyebanji has approved N76.6m as vehicle and housing loans for primary school teachers in the state as part of efforts to improve their welfare. Improved welfare will enable teachers to perform better and create a more conducive learning environment for pupils.”

The SUBEB chairman recalled that the state government had earlier disbursed N200m under the revolving loan scheme to enable more teachers to benefit from the programme.

Akinwumi commended the governor for his commitment to the education sector, particularly in the areas of infrastructure development, manpower and staff welfare.

He urged beneficiaries to utilise the loans judiciously and reciprocate the gesture by demonstrating greater commitment and dedication to duty.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary in SUBEB, Mr Michael Omolayo, who provided a breakdown of the loans, said N43m was approved as vehicle loans for 49 teachers, while N33.6m was approved as another tranche of housing loans for 72 beneficiaries.

Recall that Oyebanji, in September 2025, approved the disbursement of N596.6m for car and housing loans to 807 teaching and non-teaching staff in public secondary schools in the state.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission, Mr Michael Boluwade, said the funds were part of efforts to improve the welfare and morale of beneficiaries.

Boluwade had said, “Out of the total amount approved, N381.5m was allocated for car loans to 382 beneficiaries, while N215.1m was disbursed as housing loans to 425 beneficiaries.

“The loans, which are in line with the new rate of 100 per cent increase earlier approved by the governor, were paid to qualified personnel of the commission.”
