Three New General Hospitals Approved In Ekiti

News Update

THE Ekiti State Government says the approval for the construction and equipping of three new general hospitals is part of deliberate efforts to expand access to quality healthcare services across the state.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Oyebanji Filani, said the hospitals would be located in Awo-Ekiti, Ikogosi-Ekiti and Ipao-Ekiti, adding that the decision reflects the commitment of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji to strengthening the health sector.

Filani spoke on Saturday in Ipao-Ekiti in Ajoni Local Council Development Area, while inspecting the site designated for the proposed general hospital ahead of the commencement of construction.

He explained that the Ipao-Ekiti facility was strategically located to serve communities with high economic and agro-processing activities in the area.

“The location of this hospital was carefully considered, especially because of the level of agro-processing activities in Ipao-Ekiti and neighbouring communities,” the commissioner said.

Filani recalled that the state government recently approved the establishment of the three general hospitals as part of broader reforms aimed at expanding secondary healthcare services and reducing pressure on existing medical facilities.

According to him, the initiative is designed to bring quality medical care closer to residents while improving overall healthcare delivery across the state.

“This is part of our wider efforts to further strengthen the health sector and position Ekiti’s healthcare system as a model of excellence in Nigeria,” he said.

The commissioner added that the Oyebanji administration has continued to construct, reconstruct and equip health facilities across the state to decongest major hospitals and enhance access to medical services.

Reacting, a community leader and Chairman of the Ekiti State Local Government Service Commission, Chief Alaba Abejide, commended the governor for prioritising projects that directly impact the health and wellbeing of the people.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Ajoni LCDA, Mr Michael Ogungbemi, described the Ipao-Ekiti general hospital project as timely, noting that it would serve not only the host community but the entire north-eastern axis of Ekiti State.

“This is a well-deserved project that will significantly improve access to healthcare for our people,” Ogungbemi said.

Similarly, the Obanla of Ipao-Ekiti, Oba Williams Ehinmodupin, assured the state government of the community’s full support and urged residents to continue backing the Oyebanji-led administration to attract more development projects.

Earlier, Filani reaffirmed the state government’s readiness to expand access to quality healthcare services, particularly for women and children.

Speaking during activities marking the National Health Fellows programme, a Federal Government initiative aimed at improving healthcare delivery, the commissioner said Ekiti State would sustain the gains recorded in the health sector in the new year.
