THE President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, has confirmed that the nationwide protest scheduled for today will proceed as planned.

He said the action is aimed at drawing the Federal Government’s attention to worsening insecurity, including killings and kidnappings, as well as other critical national issues.

Meeting With President Did Not Replace Protest

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday at the Labour House in Abuja, Ajaero explained that the recent meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was not intended to halt the protest. Rather, it was an opportunity to directly brief the President on the scale of insecurity and the concerns of Nigerian workers and citizens.

Heavy Security Presence, Unions Mobilise

Responding to the deployment of security personnel around the Labour House, the NLC president said the protest would still go on, adding that affiliate unions were already mobilised and expected to join the procession nationwide.

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore and his supporters were also present to participate in the protest.

Sowore told journalists that the Federal Government has the capacity to end insecurity across the country if decisive actions are taken.
