THE NYSC is overhauling its Skill Acquisition programme, adding AI and app development to its curriculum to combat youth unemployment in Nigeria.

THE National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has given its Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme a much-needed tech upgrade by introducing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and App Development into its training modules.

With this move, NYSC is clearly telling corps members: “Yes, khaki today tech boss tomorrow.” Beyond parade grounds and CDS meetings, corps members will now gain practical, future-ready digital skills that can boost employability, encourage innovation, and support self reliance in Nigeria’s fast-growing tech space.

The inclusion of AI and app development reflects NYSC’s effort to stay relevant in a world where algorithms are working harder than some alarm clocks. It also means corps members can now learn to build solutions, not just queue for clearance.

In short, NYSC is no longer preparing youths only for the job market it’s preparing them to create the jobs. And who knows? The next big Nigerian app might just be coded from a corpers’ lodge.
