News Update
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has declared a state of emergency on all security training institutions across Nigeria to address their deteriorating state and improve their capacity to train personnel effectively.
The announcement was made after the President raised concerns about the poor state of training facilities used by agencies such as the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and other internal security bodies.
He directed that urgent steps be taken to modernise the institutions to meet present-day security needs.
The Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, who chairs the National Economic Council ad-hoc Committee on the overhaul of security training institutions, disclosed this development during an inspection visit to Lagos.
He was accompanied by the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun; the committee secretary and former Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Usman Baba; and Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, who heads the Special Protection Unit.
Mbah stated that the committee has 30 days to submit a detailed report to the National Economic Council for consideration and action.
He explained that President Tinubu expressed deep worry over the use of obsolete facilities to train security officers who are expected to maintain discipline and uphold the dignity of citizens.
