Osun FRSC flags off 2025 Ember Months campaign

In line with the directive of the Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed, mni, FCA, FCTI, CPFA, as part of the nationwide efforts to ensure safer motoring environments during and beyond the 2025 Christmas and New Year festive period, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Osun State has flagged off the 2025 Ember Months Public Enlightenment and Sensitization Campaign.

The State Sector Commander, Leye Adegboyega, fsi, during a press briefing to mark the official flag-off, said the campaign is aimed at reducing road crashes and ensuring safer roads during the festive seasons.

According to Adegboyega, this year’s campaign theme, “Take Responsibility for Safety: Stop Distracted Driving,” emphasises that most road accidents are caused by human error.

He explained that drivers’ attitudes, such as speeding, route violation, wrongful overtaking, and overloading, remain the leading causes of crashes.

Sharing statistics, “between January and July 2025, the Osun Sector Command recorded significant progress in enforcement and crash reduction. A total of 16,827 offenders were arrested for 18,766 offences. Consequently, the Command achieved a 29.8% reduction in crash-related injuries and a 52% reduction in fatalities compared to the same period in 2024”, Adegboyega revealed that the command will deploy over 1,500 personnel, including Regular and Special Marshals, across the 13 Commands in the State. In addition, 28 patrol vehicles will be strategically positioned along major routes for traffic monitoring, enforcement and swift emergency response.

The command and its 13 Component Commands have designed a robust 2025 Ember Months Action Plan aimed at reducing crashes, injuries and fatalities, while promoting safer road use across the State.

Command further mentioned that four ambulances will be stationed at critical points to ensure swift rescue operations within 10 minutes of reported crashes. A heavy-duty tow truck will also be placed on standby for prompt removal of broken-down or crashed vehicles along major routes such as Ilesa–Ife–Gbongan, Osogbo–Sekona–Gbongan, and Osogbo–Ikirun–Offa corridors. Furthermore, the Command will collaborate closely with private tow truck operators to complement its rescue and obstruction removal operations.

He stressed that the FRSC will continue to collaborate with transport unions, security agencies, and the media to promote a safe driving culture and achieve zero road crash fatalities during the Ember Months and beyond.
