THE Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old ex-convict, Omokinwa Ademola, for allegedly beating his girlfriend, Joy Jimoh, to death during a dispute over ₦100,000 in Idanre.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, the incident occurred on October 7, 2025, when the suspect and the deceased got into a heated argument over the refund of the money he reportedly borrowed from her.
During the altercation, Ademola allegedly became violent and repeatedly assaulted Jimoh until she lost consciousness.
She was rushed to the hospital, where doctors confirmed her dead.
Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer in Idanre led detectives to arrest the suspect.
The remains of the victim have been deposited at the morgue for post-mortem examination, while preliminary investigation has begun.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, condemned the incident, describing it as a barbaric act of violence.
He vowed that justice would be served and directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for thorough investigation.
Lawal reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for domestic violence and urged residents to report all forms of abuse or suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
He also appreciated the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for his continued support and guidance to the state commands, which he said have strengthened proactive policing and operational effectiveness across the country.
