A 30-year-old woman, identified as Adams Hannafi has committed suicide by hanging herself from a tree at Sumore village in Dutse local Government area of Jigawa State.
A resident told Journalist that the incident happened on Tuesday, at about 1500hrs when the woman, a housewife with four kids suspected to be insane, took her own life.
He said her body was discovered by passersby who reported the incident to security agency.
Spokesman of the Jigawa State police command, SP. Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed the incident in statement issued to newsmen.
He said upon receipt of the report, a team of police personnel from Yalwawa Division rushed to the scene, where they found the lifeless body of the victim hanging.
He said the body was carefully lowered and examined, and no foul play was suspected.
The body was conveyed to Dutse General Hospital and confirmed dead by a medical doctor on call, he said.
SP. Shiisu explained that preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased had been battling mental illness prior to the incident.
The deceased left behind her beloved husband and four (4) children.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, expressed sadness over the unfortunate incident and urged members of the public to always show care and attention to relatives or neighbours exhibiting signs of mental distress.
He further advised families to seek medical and psychological support early enough to prevent similar occurrences.
