C Ronaldo Bags Football’s First Billionaire

News Update

THE Portuguese forward, Cristiano Ronaldo has officially become football’s first billionaire, which valued his wealth at $1.4 billion.

His immense wealth stems from lucrative salaries, extensive endorsement deals, and a thriving personal business empire, solidifying his status as the highest-earning athlete globally.

Voice Air Media reports that Ronaldo’s fortune has cements his place as the sport’s highest-earning athlete, ahead of long-time rival Lionel Messi.

Over the years, Ronaldo’s earnings have come from a mix of hefty salaries, sponsorship deals, and personal business ventures. While his wages in Europe were comparable to Messi’s for much of their parallel careers, the balance shifted in 2023 when Ronaldo signed with Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr.

The move reportedly brought in a tax-free package worth $200 million a year in salary and bonuses, plus a $30 million signing bonus. Bloomberg estimates Ronaldo earned more than $550 million in salary between 2002 and 2023.

Endorsements have been another major pillar of his fortune. A decade-long deal with Nike brings him around $18 million annually, while partnerships with brands such as Armani and Castrol have added about $175 million to his total wealth.

Messi, by comparison, has earned roughly $600 million in pre-tax salary over his career. Since joining Inter Miami in Major League Soccer in 2023, the Argentine star has been guaranteed $20 million a year.

Off the pitch, Ronaldo has built an empire under his CR7 brand, spanning hotels, gyms, and fashion. He also owns several luxury properties, including an estate in Quinta da Marinha — a high-end golf resort near Lisbon — reportedly worth €20 million.

And if wealth alone didn’t confirm his global pull, Ronaldo’s social media reach certainly does. With more than 660 million followers, he remains the most followed person on Instagram — a reminder that his influence, like his earnings, is unmatched in world football.
