THE Osun State Commander of the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun Corps, Isaac Omoyele, narrowly escaped assassination on Monday night after he was attacked by armed gunmen in Osogbo, Osun State Capital.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the spokesperson of the security agency, Yusuf Idowu Abass.
According to him, the incident occurred at about 10:05 p.m. along Ikirun Road.
The heavily armed men reportedly ambushed Omoyele and opened fire on his private vehicle shortly after he left the Amotekun Corps Headquarters for his home.
The spokesman added that the incident has been reported at the Nigerian Police, Ota-Efun Division, Osogbo.
He further disclosed that the Amotekun commander is currently receiving treatment for injuries he sustained as a result of gunshots at an undisclosed hospital.
Abass said, “The Commander sustained gunshot injuries and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed medical facility. His condition is said to be stable, and he is under protective watch.
“The case has been officially reported to the Ota-Efun Police Division, and investigations are currently underway. However, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and the motive remains unclear.”
