The Osun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) held its 3rd Quarter 2025 Retreat, on the theme “Contemporary Challenges of FRSC Operational Activities in the Face of Negative Media Publicity: The Way Forward“, on Monday 29th September, 2025.
The event, held in collaboration with DDI Consult, also served as a forum for an induction workshop for the newly elected State Executives and Unit Coordinators of the Special Marshals, the volunteer arm of the Corps.
The quarterly engagement, designed as a platform for performance review, experience sharing, knowledge enhancement and collective strategizing towards attainment of set goals and initiatives, was declared open by the Zonal Commanding Officer in charge of Zone 11 of the Corps which comprises Osun, Ondo and Oyo States, Assistant Corps Marshal Joseph W Toby, at the Osun State Sector Command in Osogbo.
In his Keynote Address, the Zonal Commanding Officer urged participants at the retreat to translate the insights gained into stronger strategies, more effective media engagement, improved resource utilization and ultimately, safer roads across Osun State and the Zone at large. He equally charged them to be inspired to improved innovation, deeper collaboration and to re-dedicate themselves to the sacred mission of saving lives on Nigerian roads.
While delivering the Welcome Address, the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Leye Adegboyega, fsi, stated that the theme of the retreat is both timely and strategic, as the world is now in an age where perception is as powerful as reality and where narratives can easily overshadow facts. He opined that in such a climate, public trust becomes the greatest asset of the Corps while negative publicity is its greatest risk.
He therefore charged the participants, as personnel of a Corps entrusted with saving lives, to rise above challenges with honesty, professionalism and clear communication.
Various paper presentations were made at the retreat, with the lead paper, which revolved around the theme of the retreat, being delivered by Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Spokesperson and Special Adviser on Media to the Osun State Governor. He identified the FRSC mandate as being too vital to be drowned out by negative publicity as the nation’s battle against road traffic crashes cannot be won without the Corps playing a central role.
He therefore proposed recommendations of building trust through accountability, openness and constructive media relations, for the Corps to succeed.
Participants at the Retreat comprised the Heads of Departments and Principal Officers of the Sector Command, component Commanding Officers and Heads of Operations across Osun State, State and Unit Heads of Driver Licence Centres, FRSC Local Government Station Officers, Intelligence Operatives, Special Marshal State Executives and Unit Coordinators.
It is envisaged that the outcome of the retreat will go a long way in shaping the perception and response of the operatives of the Command and also have an overall positive effect on its activities.
