S’Court Dismisses Ondo PDP, Agboola’s appeal against Governor Aiyedatiwa’s victory

News Update

Sequel to the Notice of Discontinuance filed by the appellant, the Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal lodged by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Chief Agboola Ajayi, challenging the victory of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa in the November 16, 2024, Ondo State Governorship Election.

In a related development, this newspaper gathered that the former Ondo State Deputy Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Chief Ajayi Alfred Agboola, withdrawn the appeal he earlier filed against the outcome of the state’s last governorship election.

In a letter dated September 16 and addressed to the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Agboola explained that the decision came after wide consultations with his family, political associates, party members and legal advisers.

According to him, the consensus was that pursuing the case further was unnecessary.

“After careful deliberation, we have reached a consensus that the appeal should be withdraw and I’m by this letter so do,” he stated.

Agboola, who once served as Deputy Governor under the late Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, said his overriding concern was to promote peace, unity and good governance in Ondo State and across Nigeria.

He used the opportunity to extend goodwill to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, assuring him of his support as he pilots the affairs of the state.

“In this spirit, I extend my heartfelt wishes to His Excellency Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa as he leads our state, and I remain dedicated to contributing positively to the State and National development,” Agboola added.

The PDP candidate further appealed to residents of the state to embrace peace and work together for the overall progress of Ondo State.
