JUST IN: Bandits kill abducted Plateau village head

Suspected Fulani bandits have killed the village head of Shuwaka community in Garga District of Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State, Mallam Hudu Barau, one week after he was kidnapped.

Chairman and Secretary of the Kanam Development Association, KADA, Shehu Kanam and Garba Aliyu, who confirmed the development said the village head was brutally murdered by the bandits six days after he was abducted following the discovery of his remains in the Wanka Forest in the council.

Describing the killing of the village head as yet another grim reminder of the worsening insecurity ravaging communities in Kanam and other parts of the state, the KADA officials called on the government and security agencies to crack down on the bandits and dislodge them from the forest where they have made a home.

The association lamented that the people of Garga where the forest is located and nearby villages live in fear every day while their political leaders have abandoned them to their fate.

The association also condemned both the state and federal authorities for turning a deaf ear to their repeated cries and calls by residents who are constantly subjected to abductions and killings by marauding Fulani bandits.

The association however, called on Governor Caleb Mutfwang, to immediately declare a state of emergency in Garga and deploy adequate security forces to halt further bloodshed, while also accusing their elected representatives from the council of neglecting their people in the face of the persistent attacks.

“The silence of leaders in the face of these atrocities will no longer be tolerated. The government must act now to restore peace and stability to our community.

“We stand with the family of the late Sarkin Shuwaka and will keep fighting for justice and safety for our people,” KADA warned in the statement.
