The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, Aderemi Oseni, has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress will dislodge the Peoples Democratic Party from Oyo State in 2027.
Oseni, who represents Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency, said in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Lagos that party leaders and members had learnt bitter lessons from the 2023 governorship loss and the more recent by-election setback.
“Already, we have learnt our lessons. We have also gone to the drawing board in preparation for the general election,” he said. “I believe our approach to the 2027 elections will be different. We are working hard to dislodge the ruling PDP.
I am happy that everyone knows fundamental mistakes were made (in Oyo APC). We have returned to the drawing board already.
It has become our collective responsibility to work out how we can bring the Oyo APC back on track.”
The lawmaker said his major concern was the revival of APC in the state, stressing that the leadership was building a stronger and more united front to ensure that the PDP is removed from power in 2027.
On his political ambition, Oseni said he was “not overly ambitious” but would be ready to take on any higher responsibility in service to the state.
He disclosed that his support group, the Remi Oseni Committee of Friends, which already has no fewer than 200,000 members, had started grassroots mobilisation for the APC ahead of the next general election.
“That is my own way of helping to reposition APC in the state,” he added.
Oseni, an engineer by training, said he joined politics to serve the people and not for personal gain. He stressed that APC’s chances in 2027 would depend on fielding the best candidates for executive and legislative offices.
“It is imperative for the party to present the best candidates in 2027 to win big. We must also consult widely and strategically to reach an agreement on zoning of the governorship ticket,” he said.
The federal lawmaker noted that Ibadan, in Oyo South Senatorial District, had produced most of the state’s governors, leaving Oyo Central and Oyo North marginalised.
“Why is Ibadan always against zoning the governorship office to Oyo Central or Oyo North? Honestly, this is one of the questions people have been asking,” he said.
He urged Oyo elders to broker an understanding among Ibarapa, Ibadan, and Oke-Ogun to rotate the governorship seat among the three senatorial districts.
