A political leader and former NNPP governorship candidate in Osun State, Dr. Saliu Oyelami popularly known as AroleOrisun, has called on residents of the state to actively participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise.
Saliu made the call during a courtesy visit to the Osun Online Publishers Association (OOPA) at the association’s secretariat on Thursday in Osogbo, where he also commended members of OOPA for their role in deepening democracy and keeping the public informed.
He described voter registration as the foundation for credible elections, urging citizens who are yet to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to take advantage of the opportunity.
“Democracy thrives when the people take responsibility for choosing their leaders. I encourage every eligible resident to go out, register, and be ready to vote when the time comes,” he said.
Speaking further, Saliu lauded journalists for their sacrifices and consistency in holding leaders accountable. “I must commend the media because I’m one of you, especially the Osun Online Publishers led by Mukhtar Ajelogbon, for the crucial role you play in shaping public opinion and strengthening governance. Despite the challenges in the profession, you have continued to inform, educate and stand as the voice of the people. Without a vibrant press, democracy cannot survive, and that is why I value and respect the work you are doing,” he said.
Saliu, who is an experienced journalist and medical practitioner, added that his visit to OOPA was to commend online publishers in the state and to encourage them to sustain their watchdog role in society.
