THE age-long stance of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) against corruption and extortion of motorists by its personnel was recently showcased by the FRSC Corps Marshal, Sheu Mohammed, mni, FCA, FCTI, CPFA, through the award of FRSC Management Commendation and a cash gift of Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N250,000.00) to Assistant Route Commander Babatunde J Owoeye, a staff of the Osun State Sector Command of the Corps.

This is the outcome of a monthly performance assessment and reward initiative of the Osun State Sector Command that measures the productivity of its Officers on integrity operations and the enforcement of critical offences that have been identified by the Corps as being the major causes of Road Traffic Crashes, deaths and injuries on Nigerian roads.

The young Officer distinguished himself by staying above inducement from traffic offenders who offered bribes for him to overlook their offences.

Consequently, he singlehandedly recorded 104 “Attempt To Corrupt Marshal On Duty” (ACS) contraventions in the month of July 2025, the first of its kind in the history of the Command.

The Officer’s record in July is a climax from his previous performances in May and June 2025, when he recorded 18 and 38 ACS contraventions, respectively, which prompted the Osun State Sector Command to notify the FRSC National Headquarters, Abuja, of this extraordinary feat, which in turn attracted the Corps Marshal’s extraordinary acknowledgement and reward.

This recognition is sacrosanct, in view of its impact on the image of the Corps. Therefore, while presenting the Management Commendation Letter and cash gift to the young Officer and congratulating on behalf of the Corps Marshal, the Zonal Commanding Officer RS11 comprising Osun, Ondo and Oyo States, Assistant Corps Marshal Ibrahim Abubakar, pjsc, rss, fispon, MpA, MNIM, assisted by the Sector Commander of the Osun State Sector Command, Corps Commander Leye Adegboyega, fsi, encouraged the Officer to remain committed to positive image building and continue being a shining example for others to emulate.

The Sector Commander also admonished other Officers of Owoeye’s cadre to follow his path.
Going forward, the Command wishes to state its commitment to the discharge of its statutory duties and responsibilities, towards creating a safe motoring environment and minimizing Road Traffic Crashes on Osun State roads.

To this end, the Sector Commander charged motorists to be law abiding and desist from offering bribes to the personnel of the Corps as inducement to overlook traffic violations, adding that this will only make them to be less safety conscious and be more prone to getting involved in road crashes which the Corps is out to minimize and possibly eradicate.

The Sector Commander further said the Corps will soon commence the prosecution of all traffic offenders caught offering bribes to FRSC personnel, in addition to fining them the statutory Ten Thousand Naira (N10,000.00) penalty that the violation attracts in the schedule of FRSC traffic offences. Road safety, he said, is everybody’s business.
