President Bola Tinubu will on Thursday, August 14, depart Abuja for official visits to Japan and Brazil.

According to presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the President will make a brief stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, before proceeding to Japan, where he will participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama from August 20 to 22.

This year’s conference, themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” will focus on driving Africa’s economic transformation, improving business environments, and strengthening institutions through private investment and innovation. It will also address building a resilient and sustainable African society to enhance human security, peace, and stability.

During his stay in Japan, President Tinubu will attend plenary sessions, hold bilateral meetings, and engage with CEOs of Japanese companies with existing or potential investments in Nigeria.

TICAD, initiated in 1993 by the Japanese government in partnership with the United Nations, UNDP, African Union Commission, and the World Bank, is held every three years, alternating between Japan and Africa. The last edition took place in Tunisia in August 2022. The forum serves as a platform for high-level policy dialogue between African leaders and development partners.

Following the conference, President Tinubu will travel to Brasilia, Brazil’s capital, for a two-day state visit from August 24 to 25 at the invitation of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. While in Brazil, he will hold talks with his host and attend a business forum with Brazilian investors.
