Before Political Fake Prophets Set Nigeria On Fire, By Adesoji OMOSEBI

WE are witnesses to the runup to the last general elections in 2023 when soothsayers, prophets saturated political space with different prophecies for and against governorship and presidential candidates claiming they received a prophesy that God Almighty sent them.

But for God’s intervention, these prophets of doom would have set Nigeria on fire, we would not have been able to contain. They would have caused religious and ethnic wars that would have dismembered Nigeria, that would have led to shedding of innocent blood.

Even after the winners have emerged, they still assured their preferred candidates that God revealed to them that there would be a commotion and the military will take over power and in the ensuing confusion, their preferred candidate would be sworn-in.

This was a false belief that gave Macbeth false ambition that he would be king someday very soon. His ambition made him killed King Duncan in Shakespeare’s book, MACBETH.

In the plot of Macbeth, after hearing a prophecy that he would someday be the king of Scotland, Macbeth, and his wife, Lady Macbeth, became increasingly politically ambitious and conniving.

As they seek more power, Lady Macbeth pushes her husband to take action, ensuring the prophecy will come true.

In the play, Macbeth and his wife murdered the aged King Duncan when he came to visit them in their castle.

In reality, Macbeth killed Duncan, who was about 39, in battle, and made himself King instead.

Lady Macbeth even runs mad saying “Even Arabian Perfume cannot wash away this blood”, killed herself while her husband Macbeth was killed by Macduff, cutting off his head with another man, Malcolm becoming the king in his stead. False prophesy!

How can a General Overseer who claimed he was serving the God Almighty in a sane society throw his weight behind a particular political party or a candidate before a congregation of over 5,000?

Does it mean that the General Overseer didn’t know or ought to know that all his members cannot belong to the same political party?

Another series of elections are around the corner, State Houses of Assembly, National Assembly, Governorship and Presidential elections between now and 2027.

Our prophets and soothsayers are already warming up for other rounds of prophecies.

I begin to wonder what roles the two major religious bodies especially the Christian Bodies like the Christian Association (CAN) and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) are doing in the face of this near calamity some of their members perpetrated in the past elections.

Of what benefit is the political prophecies other than to cause confusion and disaffection in the polity?

These bodies ought to checkmate the excesses of their members because the God we are serving is not the “author of confusion.”

This writeup is a reminder to all our religious bodies to put their houses in order to avoid the repeat of what we experienced in 2023.

Atimes, you don’t need to be a prophet to know where the pendulum will swing, a true Prophet ought to know that it is not always mandatory to address any Press Conference on prophecy on who will win or lose any election.

It is time to pass a bill at the National Assembly to stop the excesses of our political Prophets to stop all these shenanigans, what Nigerians expect from them is to pray for peace, free, fair and credible elections and not who will win or lose any elections. This has to stop, it is not ideal for a country like Nigeria.

Our ambitious politicians believing or sponsoring these prophesies should know that power belongs to God, he gives only to those whom He has chosen.

God gives it to whom he wishes.

Nigerians are wiser, they now understand that they are using them to cash out.

This is not to say there are no genuine men of God, they do exist, they always use the wisdom of God to reveal their prophecies. It is not all that you see that is reveal-able. Sometimes, it is ideal to keep quiet and hear from God before the next action.

These are the same set of prophets who forecast that football team A will defeat B, yet it will come to nought.

Enough of these embarrassments!

If the National Assembly refused to pass a bill stopping any form of political prophesy, the President should pass an Executive Bill just like Obasanjo did when he stopped fake miracles
through the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission, NBC on Nigerian Televisions in 2022.

Opinion Polls should be treated in the same like manner, “it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle” than for you know which of the Opinion Polls sponsored by political jobbers in Nigeria.

The time to place a ban on prophecies on who will lose or who wins any form of election is now!  The time to stop using the name of God in vain is now!
