Peter Obi: Why I served food to guests at event

News update

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has given reasons for personally serving food to guests at a birthday celebration held in Orlu, Imo State.

The event was held in honour of Reverend Father Morris, and it drew wide attention online after photos and videos of the former Anambra governor handing out plates of food surfaced.

Many Nigerians took to social media to criticize the gesture, describing it as a political stunt.

Responding to the reactions, Obi stated that his actions were not for show but to reflect how leaders should act.

He said the act of sharing food was a symbol of care, love, and service, which he believes every society should adopt.

Speaking at the event, he noted that leadership should come with a sense of responsibility, where leaders truly care for the people.

He added that Reverend Father Morris is an example of someone who lives in service to others, especially the poor, and he encouraged him to continue in that path.

Obi assured guests at the celebration that no one would be left out and that everyone present would be served.

He also expressed a desire to always be involved in acts of service, wherever they may be.

He said, “I have been serving people here, seeing people eat, seeing people celebrate and happy. Thank you.

“I have no other thing to say, except to say that, this is the way our society should be; a society where people care. We want more of Father Morris, we want more of individuals who would be caring for the poor; caring to support everybody.

“For all of those who haven’t eaten, be rest assured that I am coming to serve you. We will make sure that everybody eats here today.

“Wherever there is service, I want to be part of it.”
