Govt Announces Restriction Of Movement In Lagos, Here’s Why

News Update

THE Lagos State Police Command has announced a 12-hour restriction on all vehicles and boats across the state on Saturday, July 12, 2025.

The move is part of efforts to maintain peace and order during the Local Government elections.

According to the Police, the restriction will begin at 3:00 a.m. and end by 3:00 p.m., affecting every part of Lagos, including roads and waterways.

This action follows a joint decision reached by security agencies under the Inter-agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES).

Officers will be deployed across the state to enforce this measure and keep the election process safe.

Only those offering essential services such as emergency medical workers, accredited observers, electoral officials, and journalists will be allowed to move during the restriction period.

The Police also warned that anyone who breaks this rule will be arrested and charged in court.

To prevent any form of intimidation, the use of police escorts, armed aides, or sirens at polling units and collation centers has been banned.

The Command made it clear that state-backed security outfits are not permitted to participate in the elections.

The Police also warned political thugs and mischief-makers to stay away from election centers.

All 15 political parties in the race have been urged to guide their supporters to avoid any form of violence.

The Police said that anyone found disrupting the process or causing trouble will be arrested and prosecuted along with their sponsors.

Parents were advised to warn their children against causing trouble, while residents were urged to be watchful and report any suspicious activity.
