President Bola Tinubu has signed a bill into law to create three new higher institutions in the Southeast.
The law, signed on Monday, provides for the establishment of the Federal College of Education in Bende, the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences in Item (also in Bende), and the Federal University in Okigwe, Imo State.
These new schools were proposed by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu.
The goal is to expand learning opportunities, especially in teacher education and medical sciences, within the region.
This development came shortly after President Tinubu gave Kalu a national honour, recognizing his contribution to public service and legislative progress.
