THE People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its Governorship Candidate in the last Ondo State election, Agboola Ajayi, have expressed deep disappointment over the recent ruling by the Ondo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, vowing to challenge the judgment at the Court of Appeal.

In a statement issued by the former Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Ajayi affirmed that a thorough review of the Tribunal’s judgment—delivered on June 4, 2025—has shown glaring inconsistencies in the treatment of critical evidence and exhibits tendered during the proceedings.

“We believe the Tribunal did not accord proper analysis to the details of the evidence before it. While we respect the judiciary, we strongly disagree with the outcome and will be appealing this decision,” Ajayi said.

He emphasized that while the ruling may have favored the All Progressives Congress (APC), the PDP remains firmly committed to pursuing justice through all constitutional means available, undeterred by the current challenges facing Nigeria’s judiciary.

“We are aware of prevailing concerns about the integrity of the justice system in Nigeria, especially in politically sensitive cases. Yet, we remain resolute. Electoral laws are not symbolic—they must be obeyed. Our democracy deserves better,” he added.

Ajayi also noted with concern that APC representatives arrived at the court on the day of the judgment in a celebratory mood, suggesting possible foreknowledge of the verdict. He described the move as troubling, but not discouraging.

He called on PDP supporters across Ondo State and Nigeria to stay strong and remain hopeful, assuring them that the quest for justice is far from over.

“We will leave no stone unturned in seeking redress. Justice shall reign, both in our state and across our nation,” he concluded.

The PDP’s decision to appeal underscores its commitment to the democratic process, rule of law, and the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral system—even as the nation prepares to mark Democracy Day on June 12.
