Akanji Philip, a reporter at Voice Air Media, has been named one of the 20 fellows selected for the 2025 Campus Journalism Fellowship, an initiative of the Africa Foundation for Young Media Professionals (AFYMP).
Chosen from a highly competitive pool of over 200 applicants across Nigeria, Philip emerged after a rigorous selection process aimed at identifying promising young voices in the media landscape.
According to an official memo signed by the programme’s Project Manager, Oladotun Busola, 10 fellows will participate in the fellowship physically, while the remaining 10 will join virtually.
The programme is structured to strengthen the professional capacity of emerging journalists in key areas such as ethical reporting, disability and inclusive journalism, gender sensitivity in media, data-driven storytelling, fact-checking, and investigative reporting.
Reacting to the news of his selection, Philip described the fellowship as a milestone in his journalism journey and appreciated his mentor, the CEO of Voice Air Media, Comrade Bright Olorungbotemi.
“I’m deeply honoured to be chosen for the AFYMP Campus Journalism Fellowship. It’s one of the most competitive and impactful journalism development programmes in Nigeria. I’m especially grateful to my mentor, the CEO of Voice Air Media, Comrade Bright Olorungbotemi, for his unwavering support and belief in my potential,” he said.
The 2025 fellowship cohort is expected to commence activities later this year, with both virtual and in-person sessions designed to equip fellows with hands-on experience and critical newsroom skills.
