Kano police station burnt after man dies in custody — Report

Some youths on Monday set part of the Rano Divisional Police Station in Kano State on fire after a young man, Abdullahi Musa, died in police custody during interrogation.

 

Musa was arrested on Sunday after being accused of a traffic offence.

 

He later died while in police custody, which caused outrage in the community.

 

The protest, which started peacefully, turned violent as angry youths damaged part of the police station and set some vehicles on fire.

 

The situation worsened when police officers allegedly opened fire on the crowd, injuring two young men.

When contacted, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the incident.

 

Haruna said, “It was part of the police station that was destroyed by the protesters.”

 

He added that the Commissioner of Police, along with the local government chairman, had visited the area.

 

“The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, alongside the Chairman, Rano LGA, Mallam Mohammed Naziru Ya’u, conducted an on-the-spot assessment visit to Rano Divisional Headquarters, Rano Local Government Area, Kano State following the unfortunate incident that led to the death of one and attack on the Divisional Police Headquarters Rano, today, Monday, 26th May, 2025,” he said.
