Operatives of Kano Police Command have arrested six dare-devil robbers and recovered four stolen vehicles in a crack down on car-snatching syndicates in the state.
SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the spokesperson for Kano Police Command revealed this in a statement on Tuesday.
According to Kiyawa, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, upon receiving information, directed a crack operation involving Tactical Teams of the Command led by O/C Special Intervention Squad (SIS), CSP Rabiu Gidado, that led to the arrest of one Saidu Abubakar, from Dan-saidu Quarters, Naibawa, Kano.
Kiyawa said the suspect who was arrested in Plateau State in possession of a stolen Toyota Corolla 2016 model, belonging to one Nura Abdullahi of Naibawa Quarters, Kano, which was stolen on May 2, 2025, confessed that he belonged to a syndicate specialized in vehicle snatching.
According to him, in a related development, the Command arrested three armed robbery suspects: Abdulaziz Usman (27) of Goron Dutse Quarters; Umar Abubakar (22) of Kazaure, both of Jigawa State; and Sunusi Abdullahi, (28) of Karaye Local Government Area, Kano who on May 1, 2025, at Yan-Katako, Ladanai Quarters, Hotoro, attacked the household with cutlasses and knives and made away with a black Yaris motor vehicle, three computer laptops, an iPhone 11, a cash sum of N102,000:00, and other valuable items.
Investigation led to the arrest of one Umar Aliyu of Kaduna State, who is a receiver, and recovery of the stolen Toyota Yaris and one unregistered Peugeot 406, robbed at Bechi Quarters in Kumbotso Local Goverbment Area, Kano.
Kiyawa further stated that, on May 16, 2025, a team of detectives arrested a suspected motor vehicle thief, named Ibrahim Isa, of Dorawa Zawan Local Government Area, Plateau State, while trying to sell a suspected stolen motor vehicle, a Howo concrete mixer, ash in color, in Kano.
Police said investigation revealed that the suspect stole the vehicle from Kazaure Local Government Area, Jigawa state, on the same day.
The vehicle was recovered.
The Kano Police spokesperson said the suspects are currently helping in investigation and will be charged appropriately in the end of investigation.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the officers that carried out the operations for their professionalism and dedication to duty.
