The Ondo Police Command has commenced a probe into the disappearance of a two-month-old baby in Ode-Irele, Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The Nigerian News Agency gathered that the incident happened around 9:00 pm on Monday at Gbeleju Quarters in Ode-Irele.
According to reports, the baby’s mother (name withheld) left the baby with its two-year-old sibling and quickly rushed to buy some stuffs at a shop adjacent to her residence.
When the mother came back, the baby was nowhere to be found, as the two-year-old sibling was unable to give vivid account of the baby.
The mother raised an alarm, which attracted residents who gathered to sympathise with her. The act later spread tension and anxiety across the community which later resulted into protest.
Confirming the incident, Olayinka Ayanlade, the Ondo Police Spokesperson told NAN that there is an ongoing effort to unravel circumstances surrounding the incidence.
Ayanlade, who did not give names of the parents of the baby, also refuted the claim making the rounds that the father confessed to selling the baby after thorough investigation.
“Yes, I can confirm the case of the missing of a two-month-old baby in Ode-Irele, and the police have launched investigation into the matter to unravel circumstances surrounding it.
“I also want to refute the claim that the father of the baby has confessed to selling the baby, we are yet to conclude investigation on this matter and the baby not yet found,” Ayanlade said.
Efforts by NAN to get more information over the matter proved abortive, as the whereabout of the parents were unknown as their house was under lock and key.
