Serving Senator Dumps Party, Joins APC

News update

Senator Sumaila Kawu, representing Kano South Senatorial District, has formally announced his defection from the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The announcement was conveyed through a letter addressed to the Senate, and read during plenary by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.

In the letter, Senator Kawu cited Section 68(1g) of the 1999 Constitution as amended, as the legal basis for his defection.

He attributed his decision to the internal crises within the NNPP, describing the party as fractured and dysfunctional, plagued by multiple litigations, leadership disputes, and disagreements over the party’s logo.

According to him, the party’s instability has rendered it incapable of serving his interests or those of the people he represents.
