News Update
Edo State governor, Monday Okpebholo has increased the minimum wage for workers from ₦70,000 to ₦75,000.
He made this announcement on Thursday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City during the 2025 Workers’ Day celebration.
The governor explained that the wage increase is meant to improve the daily lives of workers in the state.
He noted that his administration has been focused on supporting the workforce since taking office.
One of the first moves was turning over 1,000 casual workers, including cleaners who lacked job security, into full civil service positions, providing them with better job safety.
He also shared that the government has recruited 500 new teachers to ease the burden in classrooms and improve learning conditions.
Additionally, the state is looking into the possible full employment of more than 3,000 teachers currently working under casual contracts, as their contributions are seen as important to the future of the state’s children.
In the health sector, the governor revealed that 450 clinical and non-clinical staff were recruited for state hospitals, and 126 contract workers at the Edo State Specialist Hospital were given more secure employment.
