The Anambra State Police Command has successfully rescued a kidnap victim who was abducted on Tuesday at Umuege village, Amawbia, in the Awka area of the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday in Awka.
According to Ikenga, the rescue operation was carried out by officers from the Central Police Station, Awka, following swift action based on credible intelligence.
He said the officers launched a chase and strategically positioned themselves, forcing the kidnappers—who were operating with an unmarked Sienna vehicle—to abandon the victim at Umunya, along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, before fleeing the scene.
The victim was subsequently rescued unharmed and has since been debriefed by the authorities for further action.
Ikenga also disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the rescue is coming just days after the launch of Operation “Udo-Gachi Zero Kidnapping” on April 14, an initiative aimed at eliminating kidnapping and ensuring the safety of residents and visitors across the state.
