A heartbreaking incident has occurred in Owerri, Imo State, as a 13-year-old student of Urban Development Secondary School, identified as Paul, has tragically lost his life after being shot by a resident while retrieving a football.
According to reports, Paul, a JSS1 student, was playing football with his friends within the school premises when the ball accidentally landed in a neighboring compound.
In an attempt to retrieve it, he jumped over the fence while still wearing his school uniform. However, the owner of the compound allegedly shot him.
Paul was rushed to the hospital for medical attention but, sadly, he succumbed to his injuries this morning. The tragic event has sparked outrage and grief among residents, school authorities, and the boy’s family.
Meanwhile, the suspect who fired the shot has been arrested and is currently in police custody as investigations into the incident continue.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the circumstances of the shooting, but concerned citizens are calling for justice for the young boy.
